Some devices also return integer values for serial numbers instead of strings - attempting to encode an integer object as if it were a string will fail miserably, as in your case. I've just committed a fix for this to the repository (r3785). We're expecting to release NAV 3.2 within a few weeks, so I don't think you will see this in a bugfix release before that. I don't have cdp active on any machine, the net is ospf based and snmp enabled. The Cisco machines are fully understood, i can see the vlans that are there defined, counters and so on, everything is fine. Some HP machines are understood too or a sort of mainly Procurve family 25xx e 53xx even if i can't see the vlans that are defined on those router/switches. Hp/Foundry 9304m is the worst understood: non only it doesn't show any defined vlan but it doesn't show the expansions slots that are fitted in the chassis. Obviously these are my main router/switches. :) I've tried to see if there where a problem related to OIDs for this machine, but the one that NAV proposes when i add the machine is the same i get executing the snmpwalk query that's in the Online Help. I would like to know what i can do now, what infos you may need to understand what's foing on and if there's something i can test/post etc. Hope to here from you soon. Marco Barbieri. My NAV box has a 10.7.x.x addy behind an Astaro Linux firewall and that is doing the NAT translation. I have used Zenoss in this same network setup and not had a problem with SNMP but I found it too hard to configure so am trying NAV. I even tried opening up all ports so no traffic coming back would be blocked. I see the SNMP traffic leave my NAV box and go across through the firewall. I can telnet from my NAV box to the router. I can do a snmpwalk to that router from the NAV box so I know it can see it and get SNMP traffic back through the firewall. I followed the instructions for installation on HYPERLINK "http://metanav.ntnu.no/moin.cgi/InstallingOnRHEL4"http://metanav.ntnu.no/mo in.cgi/InstallingOnRHEL4 - VERY NICE BTW! It would be nice to be able to add devices with the autodiscovery but I am not sure it would work since I don't seem to be getting SNMP response from the routers.
