Hallo, thank you very much for your answer. Indeed I made progresses with NAV. I installed all snmp-components once more and now its running. My problem is however very special, because I have only a small network with about 25 HP switches ( Procurve 2524 and 8000) and 1 linux-router. I can see all devices, but only manually edited in db. I think because my linux-gateway is no cisco-node , there is no cdp on it and so it can t detect new devices on network. It seems also, the Hp-switches are not reporting any new device. This is of course no NAV-Problem, I know.... Perhaps i will try to install cdp-service on the linux-gw-box... I can edit the postgres-db, insert and update new nodes, --> the modules edit db and reports seems ok. But in Network-explorer (Fetch from DB 0ms) or Maschine Tracker I get no answer on any search for a device. Also cricket has no devices in the subdirs for switches ... It must be a general problem.. Has anyone an idea, where to start searching the problem ?
Many thanks for any help!
Have you started the NAV back-end services? It sounds like you've seeded the database with devices, but not started these. Information will not be collected from/about the devices unless you start the back-end services: /usr/local/nav/bin/nav start Check the status of running services with: /usr/local/nav/bin/nav status When you add new devices, cricket won't pick them up until makecricketconfig.pl is run. This happens automatically once a day (some time during the night, it is part of the cricket service), but it can also be run manually (preferably as the user navcron to retain correct file permissions). The machine tracker searches data collected by the iptrace (arplogger) and mactrace (getBoksMacs) services, which in turn are partly dependent on correct information about your network topology (Updated by the networkDiscovery service). The Network explorer is also dependent on the topology information. It's been a few weeks since your post, have you made any progress in this time? -- mvh Morten Vold UNINETT
