Yes.

It appears that our bugfix for problems with hexstring serial numbers on some Cisco devices introduced a new, similar bug. Some devices also return integer values for serial numbers instead of strings - attempting to encode an integer object as if it were a string will fail miserably, as in your case. I've just committed a fix for this to the repository (r3785). We're expecting to release NAV 3.2 within a few weeks, so I don't think you will see this in a bugfix release before that. Several others have reported this problem, and a workaround has been suggested: Use bulk import to insert the devices that cause this error - the serial numbers are not retrieved and checked in this manner during a bulk import. -- mvh Morten Brekkevold UNINETT

Hi all, i'm trying to use NAV 3.1.1 in my environment, my main problem seems to be that my network in mainly based on HP router/switches: 9304m (foundry/hp), procurve 5304, 5308, 2824 etc.. and a couple of cisco. I don't have cdp active on any machine, the net is ospf based and snmp enabled. The Cisco machines are fully understood, i can see the vlans that are there defined, counters and so on, everything is fine. Some HP machines are understood too or a sort of mainly Procurve family 25xx e 53xx even if i can't see the vlans that are defined on those router/switches. Hp/Foundry 9304m is the worst understood: non only it doesn't show any defined vlan but it doesn't show the expansions slots that are fitted in the chassis. Obviously these are my main router/switches. :) I've tried to see if there where a problem related to OIDs for this machine, but the one that NAV proposes when i add the machine is the same i get executing the snmpwalk query that's in the Online Help. I would like to know what i can do now, what infos you may need to understand what's foing on and if there's something i can test/post etc. Hope to here from you soon. Marco Barbieri. P.S.: btw, it looks like a great tool ;-) -- Marco Barbieri - CeSIA - 059-2055218

Hi All, I just installed Nav v3 beta on a Freebsd 6.2 from ports. Installation went without any major problems and after playing with apache config I was able to see the index page. however, after clicking on Login, I got the following: <body onLoad="document.getElementById('username').focus();"> <table height=40% border=0 width=100%><tr valign=middle><td valign=middle align=center> <br><br><br> <font face=verdana size=1> <form method="POST" action="/index/login"> <img src="/images/login/navlogo.gif"><br> <br><input id="username" type="text" name="login" style="border: 1px solid #99c;"><br><font color=#6699CC>username</font> <br><input type="password" name="password" style="border: 1px solid #99c;"><br><font color=#6699CC>password</font> <input type="hidden" name="origin" value=""> <br><br><input type="submit" value="Log in"> </form> </font> </td></tr></table> </body> The url changed from /index/index to /index/login How do I fix it? Nav is the only website on that machine so DocumentRoot is set to "/ usr/local/nav/apache/webroot/" Thanks, Peter

Get error when adding IP device "Gw router - layer 3 device" I too am getting this error and so I tried to do the bulk add and get the following. HYPERLINK "https://goozzy.ctcweb.net/images/lys/yellow.png" 2 McCall Closet:66.232.X.X:CTC:GW:ro:******* RO given, but failed to contact IP device by SNMP (IP devices of this category are required to answer). HYPERLINK "https://goozzy.ctcweb.net/images/lys/yellow.png" 3 CAM CO:66.232.X.X:CTC:GW:ro:******* RO given, but failed to contact IP device by SNMP (IP devices of this category are required to answer). My NAV box has a 10.7.x.x addy behind an Astaro Linux firewall and that is doing the NAT translation. I have used Zenoss in this same network setup and not had a problem with SNMP but I found it too hard to configure so am trying NAV. I even tried opening up all ports so no traffic coming back would be blocked. I see the SNMP traffic leave my NAV box and go across through the firewall. I can telnet from my NAV box to the router. I can do a snmpwalk to that router from the NAV box so I know it can see it and get SNMP traffic back through the firewall. I followed the instructions for installation on HYPERLINK "http://metanav.ntnu.no/moin.cgi/InstallingOnRHEL4"http://metanav.ntnu.no/mo in.cgi/InstallingOnRHEL4 - VERY NICE BTW! It would be nice to be able to add devices with the autodiscovery but I am not sure it would work since I don't seem to be getting SNMP response from the routers. They were sending it to Zenoss so I am really confused. Thanks for any help I can get on overcoming this issue. Caryl A.
