Does nav have to be in $PATH?
Only if it is convenient for you. On the other hand, I'm guessing that on a Debian installation you can use "invoke-rc.d nav" to call the nav init script. When you say there are no statistics, what do you mean exactly? Are there empty graphs on your Cricket pages, or are there no links to any graphs at all?
This is what I get:
# python -c 'import profile' Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 1, in ? ImportError: No module named profile
Ok, I did a little checking, and it seems Debian packages the Python Profiler as a separate package, under the non-free section (I don't know why, but I assume it's because the profile module is released under some other license than the rest of the Python library..?) Assuming you have the non-free section as part of your sources in /etc/apt/sources.list, try running "apt-get install python-profiler" and see whether NAV works after that. Cc: to Morten Werner, who is the NAV Debian package maintainer. On a side note: I don't know why the profile module is used in the production release, but one of the original authors of the IP Device Center has promised to look into it.
This is solved, but only one router is drawn and link to another unknown device... I have seeded into database one router and 2 switches but switches dont appear in graph.
Ok, on this matter I will have to ask Kristian to help, since he's the most knowledgeable on the Traffic Map (having authored it, and all ;) ) Kristian? - -- Morten Vold NTNU ITEA -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (MingW32) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFDVJnkXxIl0kpcOkQRAqozAJ4jS9LivAGdruuPTzvjbFOmRea86QCgtnOV YcF4CpPUqArTRd/I1W7OUWg= =na9/ -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Switches are not shown on the top level actually, but you can click on the router icon to navigate further down in the network (you might have to be logged in for this to work). -- Kristian

There are no links at all, just Cricket warning saying: WARNING: This install of Cricket is a part of NAV-v3. When viewing the data, please note that we are not responsible for any anomalies on the network that you may see here. We are only displaying them. Any grief you may experience when using this install of Cricket is purely self-inflicted, and of no importance to us. Thanks for that, now it works without python errors :) Regards, Silvije Milisic, CARNet

Hi, I'm starting out with NAV and i think it looks pretty but i have a major problem with the traffic map, which was the main reason i installed it. I have added my router and switches to the database but the traffic map only shows my router. If i look at the reports section i can see my switches and the one connected to the router does see that it is connected to our router. I'm at a complete loss here and could really do with some help Thanks, John

The top level view in Traffic Map probably looks more impressive on an installation with many routers.. - -- Morten Vold, ITEA, NTNU Tlf.nr: 735 98048 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (MingW32) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFDYH+SXxIl0kpcOkQRAj9qAJ9Xeh3qrAQD1O4p5gV24sXsF8IDbgCffYrN wmcQLvRBShBMiC0olO229U8= =wsPu -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Is it possible to put a box on maintenance which has status down?
It should be.
How?
Well, I tried out for myself. My initial thought was to click the box in the status list, then on the "[Schedule Maintenance]" link. This sends me to the Messages system, and I'm given a choice to either add the maintenance schedule to a new or existing message. But I couldn't get either of those to work. Checking the code, it seems a bug makes Messages forget the box you wanted to schedule for maintenance. I believe I've fixed the bug on trunk now (r3350). Another peculiarity I noticed after fixing the bug, is that if I want to add the maintenance schedule to a new message, I must remember to click "Save message and add equipment" - if I just click "Save message", the message is created, but no maintenance schedule is attached to it. I guess the workaround for now is to do it the hard way: Go to Messages - -> Maintenance and do a quicksearch for the IP or hostname of the box you want to put on maintenance. Attach it to a new or existing message from there. - -- Morten Vold, ITEA, NTNU Tlf.nr: 735 98048 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (MingW32) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFDYMu9XxIl0kpcOkQRAlt4AJ4rmmR9YzC2Mcutj+JNYGIZaeASUgCbBLRc ELe8coERrhXUixSVSrYCNDo= =EqaC -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Yes, this should be changed. '1' is not a valid value for a boolean field. [..] Someone probably forgot to include the netbox.ip column in the query. Morten, can you check in these two changes (I could too, but I am not sure what the current state of the subversion tree is)?

Hello, I was testing MetaNav while ago, it was good software, but I faced some bugs, and give up. Now I'm thinking about installing it once again. I have 2 questions: 1. Is debian package up to date? I was using it before, and I would like to try it again. I was using SID, maybe this time it will go on stable? What is best distro to install NAV? To have no problems with upgrades... 2. Was anybody successful with monitoring linux boxes with MetaNav? thanks for info, regards -- Woj
