I have a copy of the DVD here in my office, although it might be scratched up a bit, since I used it as a necklace during the conference. I see Ketil Forselv has already offered to send you an ISO image of the disc, but if something should go wrong, I can do the same. P.S. Remember, the official languge of the list is English :) -- mvh Morten Brekkevold UNINETT

Do you have any idea what I could have done wrong?
Looks like NAV's nav.Snmp module hasn't been fully imported because pysnmp is missing, and this might be why you are seeing both these messages. Did you install pysnmp, as the SLES guide you pointed to says? What version of NAV are you installing? -- mvh Morten Brekkevold UNINETT

When I added the server navcron started a process called Java, and this process took more and more memory until the computer running nav crashed. I removed the ip device from the database but then cricked displayed this error at the bottom of the cricket webpage:
Config tree needs to be recompiled: Referenced file /usr/local/nav/cricket/cricket-config/servers/"IPofServer"/"IPofServer"
If this does not disappear after a recompile of the cricket tree, I cannot really say what this message means. Cc: to John-Magne, who might be able to answer your question. To manually recompile your cricket tree, you should be the navcron user. If you followed the RHEL4 guide closely, then your cricket installation's compile script should be located as /usr/local/nav/cricket/cricket/compile . If you are root, you can run this as navcron with the following command: su -c /usr/local/nav/cricket/cricket/compile navcron
The two questions I got then is: what is that java prosess that started the trouble and how can I prevent it from happening the next time I added a server? How do I get that Cricket error fixed?
I don't know. NAV has several backend Java processes, but it doesn't spawn new Java processes as a result of adding any servers or other IP devices from the web interface. To find out which process you are referring to, you must provide the arguments of the process, as only those will tell us exactly which NAV program is running. "ps uww -u navcron" should be a good command to find all processes running as the navcron user.
I feel more comfortable in a windows enviroment but NAV offer some good functionality that I think could be useful in our network, so I would really like to get this working.
I hope installing and running NAV on Linux will be a good learning experience for you then :) -- mvh Morten Brekkevold UNINETT
