This appears to related to the same problem reported in this bug: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1792351&group_id=10... I.e. stricter type checking in PostgreSQL 8.2. I don't know whether there might be an option in postgresql.conf which allows you to reduce the strictness as a workaround, though.
