nav is not monitoring

Hi, Looks like my 3.0.b10 nav installation isn't doing the automated processes like it should. I'm pretty sure I've done the seeding process correctly, and nav isn't showing any error's. The problem is in that nav isn't monitoring new ip devices I add. i.e. if I plug out a router that is in nav's db, it still shows it as UP, hence my alert profile doesn't work. Also nav makes cricket targets only for sysuptime, no interface targets. I need help in tracking this problem. Note: I have no switches, cabling and patches entered in the nav db, maybe the problem is there!? Also I don't have a switch that has snmp support, where/how do I enter such equipment in nav's db? Hi I got my NAV 3.0 beta10 working on FreeBSD 5.4. I added a new vendor "bintec", and 2 types X4300 and X1200II. Then added 2 IP devices category GW which are bintec routers respectively to the types. makecricketconfig.pl made targets only in /cricket-config/routers/ ! Bintec uses standard IF-MIB, and from what I've read, makecricketconfig.pl should make cricket targets for bintec interfaces!? What am I doing wrong? Could you explain the process in detail, or refer me to a former discussion or man!? Perica Veljanovski

And more, some switches (nothing special, typical 2900 with atm interface) are properly recognized in NAV, but in Cricket can't see interfaces, only CPU. This switches have both - Ethernet and ATM interfaces... So, question is - what is the best way to debug cricket problems? I changed /usr/local/nav/bin/makecricketconfig.pl and put it into debug mode, but I don't know what to search... regards and thanks for answer... I have some problems with Cricket, there is no description for router graphs. These are cisco 7206, 750x, 7140 boxes. Description on routers interfaces are in following format (example): interface FastEthernet1/0/0.200 description elink,xxx_gw,xxx,,200 And in "Router ports report", for this port I can see: - in vlan column: "200" - in nettype column: "elink" - in netident: "router_name,xxx_gw" so it is recognized correctly in NAV... For switches - cisco 2900, 2950 there is no problem, all interfaces are described properly in Cricket. As far as I know Nav has got problems with auto-detecting such connections. My question: - is possible to "tell" Nav that particular connection exists? Or howto manage ATM-connections. Hello, Today I did NAV installation using this excellent howto: http://metanav.ntnu.no/moin.cgi/InstallingOnRHEL4 After adding some devices I have problem with using nav start/stop script: [root@nav ~]# /usr/local/nav/bin/nav start "-":8: bad minute errors in crontab file, can't install. It would make it super-simple to get NAV up and running on almost any x86 computer (even windows!), and installing it for real would be a simple matter of copying all the files on the VMWare partition onto a real partition. It should also not be much work to do. Does ITEA have a VMWare license? -- Kristian
