Announcement: NAV 3.4.0 released

NAV 3.4.0 final is now available for download. As SourceForge's upload system is currently unavailable for maintenance reasons, the source tarball can be downloaded from the MetaNAV web site: http://metanav.uninett.no/files/nav-3.4.0.tar.gz (md5 checksum: 8ee1b3739db7c5af2b07987ea3f6d2bb) This is a feature release, the list of features and bugs fixed can be found in the attached changelog. Changes since the release candidate include a small regression in a CSS stylesheet, and some added schema changes that were missing the first time around. Funky Network Explorer error

Hello there, For some reason I've started to get a "random" error when accessing the Network Explorer map on my NAV installation. Can someone please tell me what might be wrong? Redhat AS4 python errors

Hi, I did a fresh install and ran up2date on RedHat AS4. I want to test nav under debian etch. The command:aptitude install nav gives this output: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... The nav command is a convenience tool to do all the starting and stopping in one go (plus the added crontab manipulation). It still calls the etc/init.d scripts in the end. Several of the init scripts are designed to be run as root, and use su to drop privileges to navcron before executing processes that cannot drop privileges by themselves (such as java). Good Evenin', Being new to nav..... Installation is on FreeBSD v6.x. Performed initial install from the 'ports' collection. After following instructions on basic configuration (included setup of Postgres, setting up a couple devices, room, location, etc.) it appears that some services still aren't starting: $$> nav start Starting: cricket iptrace logengine mactrace maintengine networkDiscovery pping smsd thresholdMon Failed: alertengine eventengine getDeviceData servicemon I've already done some research and had to hand-tool some .py files as there were errors for "import sre as re" and python stated that it was deprecated, ie: it should be "import re" (sre is now re) I'm not seeing any log data (even with debug=6 in nav.conf) for the failed services. Does anyone have information that may lead to this being more successful? BTW - we utilize Apache 2.x with AD authentication for internal resources. I've seen some errors with python and the web pages as well - is there an expectation that it would be Apache 1.x instead? Here are some specifics: OS: FreeBSD v6.x (Microsoft/BSD shop) Java: Diablo JDK-1.5.0 Tomcat: 6.0.14 Cricket: 1.0.5_4 nav: 3.2.2 Python: 2.5.2 Apache 2.2.8 ant: 1.7.0 Thanks!

If no new bugs are discovered/reported in the release candidate within the next 10 days, the candidate will be re-released as the final 3.4.0 version. Superb. I have a 7.x machine that I'll give this a run on today. The production machine that I'm currently trying to get it running on is a 6.x machine though. :-( Factors outside of my control require that it remains a 6.x machine at present.
