GbE2c Ethernet Blade Switch

Hi, Maybe a stupid question, but we have several type of switches/routers in our network, nav does a good job with recognizing the hp and cisco ports. But we also have some Gbe2c switches, they are sold by hp but the original is from another branche (wich I forgot). Nav does see the type of switch but it doesn't see the individual switch ports. I would realy like to see that nav/cricket also keeps track of those switchports. Kind regards, Rene.

problem with the nav virual appliance

hello I tried to use the nav ( lenny ) virual appliance with virtualbox ( by importing the ovf ) but it failed. vitrualbox complained that the vmdk was incorrect. i downloaded it again on another computer and tried to convert the vmdk with qemu-image but it also complained that the vmdk was incorrect. could you confirm that the latest vmdk uploaded on your server really works ? ps: the etch vmdk works fine thanks mke

Where do mcc.py get its data from

NAV 3.10.1 We have several (but not all) routers and switches where cricket try to collect data fram OIDs the devices doesn't know anything about. I fail to find any similarities in type of device or OS-version between the devices. Geomap has gone blank since the end of February

It has been brought to our attention that NAV's Geomap has recently gone blank. Apparently, this is because OpenStreetMap has pulled their support for the Osmarender layer, which is one of the two OSM layers initialized and used by Geomap (the other being Mapnik). A post [1] on the OSM-dev list explains what has happened. As a response, we've removed the Osmarender layer from Geomap; this will be effective from the NAV 3.11.1 release, but if you wish to patch your current NAV installation to enable Geomap again, the patch is available at [2]. Announcement: NAV 3.11.0 and 3.10.4 released

The newest feature release of NAV, version 3.11.0, is now available for download at Launchpad: https://launchpad.net/nav/3.11/3.11.0 The (hopefully) last bugfix release of the 3.10 series is also available at https://launchpad.net/nav/3.10/3.10.4 Both releases include a fix for the following embarrassing issue: * LP#947080 (Netbox attributes aren't updated when modules are found) The 3.11.0 release adds the following user-visible features and improvements: * LLDP support for improved topology detection. * getBoksMacs replaced by ipdevpoll plugins in `topo` job (i.e. fewer Java dependencies) * Q-BRIDGE-MIB now also used when collecting switch forwarding tables, meaning improved machine tracking data for switch vendors like HP, Juniper and Alcatel. * The Machine Tracker's IP search form has consolidated the `To` and `From` IP address search fields into a single `IP Range` search field with extended search syntax for ranges of IP addresses. See LP#643544 for details. * ipdevpoll can now be made to run single job configurations from ipdevpoll.conf, to run in the foreground, and to log to stderr instead of its log file. * ipdevpoll will reset its log levels from logging.conf upon receiving a SIGHUP signal. * ipdevpoll will log the currently active polling jobs upon receiving a SIGUSR1 signal. Using NAV as a source for rancid

Hi! We´re looking into using rancid (http://www.shrubbery.net/rancid/) for keeping track of device configuration. I´d like to use the NAV database to build the rancid configuration. Currently I use dump.py, but I need more of the internal NAV data per device, most importantly I need to know the device vendor - cisco, juniper, alteon and so on. Is there an easy way to get a more complete dump of the NAV database? Cheers, -Sigurd

NAV 3.10.3 is now available for download at Launchpad: https://launchpad.net/nav/3.10/3.10.3 This maintenance release contains fixes for the following reported issues, as well as a few other minor tweaks: * LP#906849 (Status page does not show current IP devices down) * LP#936926 (mcc registers sensors RRD files in wrong directory) * LP#937622 (a device's supported snmp version is never updated) * LP#937677 (type, device and various other attributes aren't updated) * If you're on NAV 3.10, we recommend that you upgrade as soon as possible, as these bugs are quite crippling if they hit you. * After the upgrade, we also recommend running `cleanrrds.py` with the -d option, to clean NAV's database of references to non-existant sensor-related RRD files.
