NAV supporting Cisco Voice VLANs

Hi, we are looking into using NAV with Cisco IP-Phones (8841/8851 series) and while trying the feature we realized the config put on the port doesn¹t use the cisco proprietary settings but sets the port into trunk. What we want to achieve is using an additional voice-vlan on the port like:: Switch(config)#interface range fastethernet 0/1 - 2 Switch(config-if)#switchport mode access Switch(config-if)#Switchport access vlan 50 Switch(config-if)#switchport voice vlan 10 As stated by Morten via IRC this has not been implemented yet also due to the fact that they lack the devices to test on. I wanted to ask if it was possible to implement this so it becomes part of the main NAV tree. We could fund this development and help with the testing. Maybe you could also give an estimate on how much work this would be? Netmap AttributeError

Dear NAV users, I just have a fresh install of NAV In Debian 7. Typeoid issues

So I am using the latest appliance in a vmware environment and I am new to NAV as of two weeks ago. Things started well and I am in love the potential of NAV. I had 20 devices added and those were working well; however I have run into an issue that I cannot seem to wrap my head around. It stated last week when I added a device and it failed to locate the typeoid string after performing an inventory. As I added additional devices I kept getting the same results. Thinking it might be a resource issue I purged all devices, restarted NAV and just added the device where the typeoid string first failed to load. No change. I then started searching the web for other with like errors. Not much except for a singe bridge plugin error which does not match this issue. I then bumped up the logging for ipdevpol plugings and found this warning: [WARNING plugins.typeoid.typeoid] [inventory DA13_SW07.xxxx.xxx] Netbox has changed type from unknown to unknown (sysObjectID 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.367) Each device for where the typeoid failed to load has this warning. So I figure the typeoid just failed to populate the table correctly. So I matched the reporting sysObjectID with the correct Cisco name and created a database seed with this type. I then rescanned and bingo the type field populated. Thinking I was out of the woods I check after the next inventory poll and found the device failed to access the devices inventory. Huh. Logs report this issue: [ERROR jobs.jobhandler] [inventory DA13_SW07.xxxx.xxx] Job 'inventory' for DA13_SW07.xxxx.xxx aborted: Plugin ciscovlan reported a timeout I have verified the system snmp and switch configurations and they are identical. I am using snmp 2c and the same RO community for all switches. There are layer 2 and layer 3 switches with produce this issue. There multiple models and port configurations. These are single function LANS connected with high speed MPLS, broadband, and direct fiber connections. I am guessing this is all stemming from a condition where the device cannot be polled or cannot be polled in a allotted time. There are no network error to these site and I have some sites were devices work well and others do not. All other aspects of the device can be polled and reported on just fine it’s just the inventory which fails. Here is the snmp stats from a L3 device which is subject to this issue. Problem starting some services on NAV 4.3.1

Hi. I have a problem with NAV 4.3.1. When I start or restart it the following "services" won't start: Failed: eventengine ipdevpoll servicemon smsd I can start them manually and then they works. I also tried to reinstall NAV with "aptitude reinstall nav" but same problem. I'm running Debian Wheezy 64-bit. What can be the problem? Regards Mattias Söderholm

The first maintenance release of the NAV 4.3 series is now out. The source code is available for download at Launchpad [1]. NAV RAM Usage

Hello guys, I'm running NAV 4.2 in a production environment here at the company I'm working for. I'm using Debian Wheezy (no graph interface installed) with 1GB of RAM and I have about 50 devices in the NAV seed database. I've noticed that almost all the the memory is already in use. It's no problem for me to increase it since it's in a virtual environment. But since I increase it I was just wondering if this is normal for NAV to use such amount of RAM memory. Some beginners questions

Hello! I have just started trying NAV, and is running it on a small part of our network at the moment, and have some questions: It finds our vlans and matches them with the correct prefixes but since we don't follow the convention for naming router interfaces the net ident and description fields is either empty (most common) or a bit confusing. Is there a way to edit them manually (directly in the database?)? Any other suggestions? If I want to enter cabling, in which "direction" is it supposed to be, should I enter the wiring closet as "Room" and the office as "Target" or the other way around? /Per Andersson Chalmers IT-department

The initial 4.3 series release of NAV is now out, with only minor changes and some bugfixes since the release candidate. A big thanks to those who helped test the release candidate! The source code is available for download at Launchpad [1]. A new package for Debian Wheezy has been published in our APT repository [2] as usual (We have no packages for Debian Jessie yet, due to dependency problems and our own resource constraints). The virtual appliance download has also been updated.
