Hello again. I finally made it work. UIOs ldap server doesn't accept uncrypted connections when authenticating a user/password. So after alot of testing it worked when openldap knew where to find the correct certificate. One problem occured though. I am trying to change the room on a device, and get the following error. Using the subversion repository is not an option for me right now since I will only get the source there and will have to compile it, somethink I tried earlier with some beta version. There is just too much setup needed to get this to compile for me to have the time to make this work. So, I am instead hoping for the release version or maybe an RC3 version coming soon so I can start testing out the alert setup and the SMS alert system. Since I did not have the chance to attend the GigaCampus meeting in Trondheim this time I did not get any "inside information" to when to expect a new release of NAV. Thanks for the help, Kristian. Linking the files and restarting the tomcat server fixed. This step is missing in the InstallingOnSLES, so I went ahead and added it as follows: http://metanav.ntnu.no/moin.cgi/InstallingOnSLES#configuring-tomcat-and-the… Next, symlink the .jar files as well: cd /usr/share/tomcat/shared/lib ln -s /usr/local/nav/lib/java/*.jar . Sorry, I'm not a apache wizard! Currently, a call to http://myserver.com/nav seems to redirect to http://myserver.com/index/login?origin=/nav I seem to be missing a rewrite rule or something. I don't see it in httpd2.conf.example, and suspect it has somethign to do with the document root that is provided by a virtual server, maybe? As Roar Pettersen suggested to him, EditDB is unfortunately very picky about the version of the pysnmp library. It requires pysnmp-3.3.5. Syslog setup

I am currently trying to setup the syslog functionality in NAV v3 Beta, and have edited the logger.conf to select specific devices and escalate their errors/warnings. I have also changed where the log file is expected to be so that NAV can find the syslog messages from the device, but I am still not getting any data even though I see info getting dumped into the log. I have looked for documentation on this feature set, but I am unable to find anything. Can anybody point me in the right direction for this?

In the GetDeviceData.log file I get a lot of the following messages from all my switches in NAV: getDeviceData UPDATE_DATA-6-UPDATE_NETBOXES No OIDs found for netbox: I used snmpwalk to test snmp connectivity and it works fine. Hello again, I am currently trying to create unique user logons to allow read only access to those devices that individual departments are responsible for monitoring. My problem is that I am not sufficiently clear on how to go about doing this. It seems that you should be able to do this in the "Privileges" section on the group creation page. Is this correct? If not, is there some other way to limit users ability to see all devices? Thank you in advance for any/all help. If possible, could somebody please send an example pytho regex for creating a demo group that can only see objects in the "demo" container?

SW vs GSW

Hello, Could someone explain to me how NAV interprets SW and GSW categories. It is not making sense to me. For example, a Cisco Catalyst 6513 has three cards: 1 for switching and 3 for MSFC routing. So I suppose that the first one should be set to SW and the MSFCs to GW. Then, the Catalyst 4006 switches that we use, NAV did not get data when I entered them as SW. It gets all the data when I change them to GSW. However, these 4006 are only doing switching on layer 2. SImilarly for Catalyst 3500 series switches. I could not find anything in the NAV wiki, any information will be appreciated. Thanks!

vlanPlot - Looks very messy

Hi, I have entered a few routers and switches for testing. The vlanPlot gets all the links between them, but the view (http://www.iwu.edu/~acm/nav/vlanplot1.png) is rather ugly as compared to what you people have in the wiki (http://metanav.ntnu.no/moin.cgi/NAVScreenShots). I know that a lot of software allow you to drag devices in the traffic map to get a nicer view. Is that possible in NAV or is there some other way to get a view like you have in the wiki? Secondly, as you can see in the above screenshot and in this (http://www.iwu.edu/~acm/nav/vlanplot2.png), the devices are labelled by their ip address. Is it possible to display their SNMP Names instead of the IP address, since with many devices it will be difficult to keep track of the IPs. Ofcourse, one solution would be to assign DNS to the devices but I was wondering if the SNMP names are possible (perhaps by some simple change to the applet code?). They are: All the info you gave me looks good and at least ports 1-7 and 24 (uplink I assume) should show up. Can you grep the getDeviceData.log file for 'dbfesx424-uunet3.be.weather.com' and give me the output, as well as any messages in the getDeviceData-stderr.log file? Hopefully this will give an indication on why the ports are not showing up. -- Kristian

[Nav-users] postgresql will not allow connections from software after ip-change

Hi, postgresql will not allow connections from software/script after ip-change, I cannot figure out why. If I manually connect to postgresql it works fine. Here are to two transcripts from software output and from terminal output.
