If you are indeed experiencing cache saturation, a non-buggy version might expose it properly and you can take the necessary steps - such as running multiple carbon-caches or storing your Whisper files on an SSD (although I'll add, as I've done before, that we are running carbon-cache 0.9.10 in production, as upgrading to 0.9.12 gave us abysmal performance, with cache saturation on almost every installation - so even downgrading might help). Hello, we're having problems with gaps in graphs (only for some interfaces) and I'm working through the https://nav.uninett.no/doc/4.8/faq/graph_gaps.html guide. I've arrived at the part with the "Carbon Cache" and I'd like to know whether those two graphs represent a healthy state: http://abload.de/img/e7zassl.png http://abload.de/img/jyz3sjf.png What strikes me as odd is that there are negative numbers, I can't see that on the graph on https://nav.uninett.no/doc/4.8/faq/graph_gaps.html Best regards Karl

Integrated Documentation Wiki

Hello: Is there any efforts to add a "Wiki" or "Documentation" tab to netboxes and rooms? I'm thinking of integrating something like a mini wiki, like TiddlyWiki , in an additional tab for netboxes and rooms to have field editable configuration notes, etc. - maybe with the ability to store files to be associated with the device or room also (manuals, configs, drawings, photos, screencaps, et al). Looking to see if anything similar is being worked on, before I start studying the NAV code and look how to integrate such. Business report - linkDown, erroneous listings

The business report for Link Availability are supposed to show links that are expected to be up but are experiencing downtime. Links that have never been up or that are down and the linkDown alert is acknowledged/cleared will not show up here. Have I understood this correctly? We now have a handful of links which have been down "forever", but NAV did at some point last Friday decide that the links were up, ended the linkDown status and shows the links in the business report with nn% downtime. All these links are still down and NAV thinks the link is Inactive. (It is possible that the NAV processes including ipdevpoll was restarted at the point the error was introduced) How can we clean up this mess and remove the links from the business report? --Ingeborg

Dependencies problem during upgrade/install in debian 9

Missing some uplinks

We updated our installation to 4.8.3 (Real Topology: some C2960 Cisco connected to a pair of Nexus) NetMap does not work properly (missing some uplinks). We edit IP Device info and, although NAV sees there links as unrecognized and after having added those unrecognized neighbors to NAV. Connections do not appear. Remote Name (as identified by NAV in unrecognized neighbors) is different from Sysname in the Seed Database (obtained from host file). Any suggestions? Is it better not to use host file? Feedback about the new IP Device Info

Hi, We used the old layout in the function IP Device Info a lot in NAV and we are trying to get used with the new layout but here are some comments about it: * With the new layout with switches > 24 ports or 48 ports you have to scroll down to see the active/inactive ports, the old view give you on one page all the ports. * The 'last used' is stated 'Never' for uplinks, this is kinda confusing. * With the old layout you could use with the switch activity tab the history of some amount of days to check activity so you could see very fast wich ports arent used. Now you see the last date (except for the uplinks), but the older view was more easier. Curious about other people's oppinions. Kind Regards, René.

Nav fails on login/creating new user from LDAP

User is defined in LDAP and new to NAVdb. error.log:[...] [INFO] [pid=36224 nav.web.ldapauth] USER-drift is verified to be a member of cn=nav,cn=filegroups,cn=system, (removed) error.log:put_filter: "(member=uid=USER,cn=users,cn=system, (removed) )" Seems like the -drift is removed from the USER (it does appear with other users) ? There is no 'successfully logged in' in the log as with other users (with -drift). USER is not created in Account list. Topo doesn't work with Cisco VG350

NAV snmptrapd handler help!

Hi NAV gurus, I am in the process of learning how to use the snmptrapd handler for NAV. I hit a few road blocks along the way. I first test a simple home-made snmptrap (V1), what is the procedure to incorporate it into NAV snmptrapd. Where do I put the text mib files? /usr/share/snmp/mibs? Do I need to convert the text mib file into *.py in the directory (using smidump ?) /usr/share/pyshared/nav/smidumps ? I need to modify /etc/nav/snmptrapd.conf to add our own handler and put it in /usr/share/pyshared/nav/snmptrapd/handlers/ In my trap handler, I need to tell it process the trap with trap.genericType match what we define it. But I still could not get it to work properly. I would appreciate if someone can point me to the right direction, as I still miss a few pieces here and there. Thank you. Netmap

Hello, since a few days devices are not showing anymore in the netmap. They do create graphs and a responding to SNMP requests. it concerns some servers (ESX) and firewalls for now, but not all of these? Anyone has seen this before or knows what is wrong? Cheers Erik

nav log time stamp issues: local time and UTC on different log files

Hi NAV gurus, I noticed that some of the NAV log files use "local time" (here in California), 2017-12-07 15:56:13,973 [INFO] [nav.statemon.db] Returned 0 checkers while the other use UTC+1 in time stamp: 2017-12-08 00:50:14,898 [INFO] [nav.snmptrapd] Snmptrapd started, listening on 0.0.0.0:162, [::]:162 What do I need to make all log files using the local time stamp? Netmap showing connections that do not exist anymore

Hi, I have been using NAV for quite some time and I am really satisfied with the tool. So much so, that I implemented it at my new job. That being said :) I have a question: the Netmap application is showing me connections that do not exist anymore. This means, they were once established, but have been disabled (I am talking about connections between two network switches, between which the cables have been removed and the interfaces have been shutdown) a couple of months ago. Because the network I am managing is not very big, this is not a big problem because I know those connections in the Netmap are "fake". This is, however, a bit annoying, and I would like the map to reflect the actual topology of the network. So my question is: is there any way that I can force a redrawing of the map? Or a way to force nav to delete that connection from its database? Thanks in advance! Announcement: NAV 4.8.2 released

The second maintenance release of the 4.8 series of NAV is now out! The source code is available for download at GitHub [1]. New packages for Debian 8/9 (Jessie/Stretch) are published in our APT repository [2], as usual. The virtual appliance will be updated shortly. New to NAV, supported devices

Hello, Sorry about my english, I'm french so everything may not be understood :-) I'm new to NAV and this software seems very interesting for my needs. I'm managing the network in an Engineer School (IOGS) and CNRS Labs (LCF and LP2N) based in 2 sites (near Paris and near Bordeaux). I've got an heterogeneous group of switches because we begin to change our 100Mb switches by 1Gb and 10Gb ones. For the moment we own : - Dell S4048-ON (force10) used for routing - Dell N2048 - Dell N4064 - Cisco 2960s - Cisco 3750 My switches are recognized pretty well after some tweaking. For Cisco 2960, everything works. Sometimes I've got timeout and "failed" changes so I need to wait before trying again (especialy vlan change). For Cisco 3750, it's the same For Dell N2048, I'm a bit confused because if I have this command "switchport access vlan 524" already set in the switch and I ask to change the vlan from 524 to 525 with NAV, it adds this command "switchport general pvid 525" but doesn't delete the old one. So why change a "switchport access" by a "switchport general" ? Is it better to have a "switchport mode general" in default config ? Switchport mode access is the default mode, the 2 combined commands will not work as intended I think ? Ipdevpoll issues

Hello all, I just updated our installation to 4.8.0. I noticed however, that there seems to be an issue with multicore mode with ipdevpoll. It seems to no longer work. Only one process runs, or it doesn't seem to run at all. Anybody else encounter any issues with this? Thanks William Daly Network Specialist (707) 453-6170
