Subject: Question about auto discovery Hi all, I need some help!!!!!!! In the release notes for the V3.1 date 30 June 2006: Autodiscovery command line tool added to contrib. This tool will try to discover every managed network device within your network, and add them to NAV. I really need some help about it! For information we have about 10.000 nodes and about 300.000 ports to manage. Every routeurs and switches are CISCO devices. This for 130 locations around the world. So you'll easily understand that autodiscovery is mandatory for us! We're currently use HPOV NNM but we want to change for something else, the probleme is that there is no autodiscovery engine working "correctly" to discover our large network. Some softwares use range IP for discovery or use only 1 snmp community and so on....that's not the right way to discover a large network with a lot of subnets I really think that NAV can be the right solution for us, but only if autodiscovery works fine! This should fix it: $ sudo -u postgres psql arnold ALTER TABLE identity OWNER TO nav; Use '\d' in psql to check if the other tables and sequences also are owned by the nav database user. Network Explorer and Traffic map Tomcat issues.

MetaNav 3.0.1 on Debian. Using Tomcat4 and kaffe as described in the README.debian install dokument that comes with the pakage. I get Network Explorer to work, but Traffic Map only hangs on loading (in IE and Mozilla) and require the browser to be killed. I can not get the tomcat localhost:8080 test page to show. Using Tomcat5.12 and 5.17 with jre1-5.0 I get the tomcat test page, localhost:8080, to work. But Network Explorer gives me an error message (copy in the bottom of the mail) and Traffic Map has the same problem as with tomcat4. I can not find a similar configuration file that is described in README.debian as /etc/default/tomcat4, where TOMCAT_SECURITY=no is set. I have tried to use the kaffe version that works somewhat with tomca4 for 5.12 and 5.17, with no success and jre1-5.0 for tomcat4, but that does not work either. Tried with JDK1-5.0 too, but with the same result. Can anyone point me in the direction of a solution to this problem? This bug was fixed in that release. The problem was that a newer version of mod_python serves this page with an automatic content-type of text/plain, because it couldn't see an <html> at the start of the page. This was fixed by adding full HTML dressing to the login page (which it should have had all along), and just to be sure, the login module forces the content-type to be text/html now. -- mvh Morten Vold UNINETT

Hello List I have some problems to run NAV on freebsd 6.1 (i386). I used the description from http://metanav.ntnu.no/moin.cgi/DevVerToFreeBSD The installation worked without any problems. When I try to start nav with ./nav start I always get an error message like: Fatal error: Could not find the nav.startstop module. Is your PYTHONPATH environment correctly set up? I've set the PYTHONPATH to /usr/local/nav/lib/python but I still got the same error message. This are all python programs I already installed: py24-cheetah-1.0 py24-forgethtml-20041021 py24-forgetsql-0.5.1 py24-mx-base-2.0.6 py24-psycopg-1.1.21 py24-rrdtool_lgpl-0.2.1_1 python-2.4.3 Is there something missing? Hi ! Don't know if other NAV users see this problem in Cricket ? Problem description : The description field is "missing" on all "giga-router-interfaces", eg : gigabitethernet3_1 [ Octets ] [ UcastPackets ] [ Errors ] No description available But if I look at a "giga-switch-ports" on the same router/switch then the description field is correct. It's an old error from the 3.0.0 release which has been reported before (at least during the big NAV-meeting early this year).
