Hopefully this will give an indication on why the ports are not showing up. -- Kristian

[Nav-users] postgresql will not allow connections from software after ip-change

Hi, postgresql will not allow connections from software/script after ip-change, I cannot figure out why. If I manually connect to postgresql it works fine. Problems with getDeviceData

NAV doesn't show some data

Hi: I got nav installed and running for the most. However there is one feature that is important to me and I can't see it (although I'm sure it's there, probably my configuration is bad). When I track a machine by the mac address, I want to see which port of which router it is connected to, so that I can take off the machine immediately (physically) if I need to. RIght now, for example, I have a core switch 10.0.0.5 and there's a router 10.0.6.1 which is connected to the core. So if I track (by mac address) a machine connected to 10.0.6.1, nav tells me that it is connected to 10.0.0.5, which doesn't help me since I want to know the port on 10.0.6.1. By the way, data is being colected by cricket (I can see in the graphs). What could it be then? Is it due to wrong type selection for the ip devices? Regarding that, does it make a difference if I select GSW for all switches (SW and EDGE) ? Thanks!

Hi Guys, I am liking NAV quite a bit here, and would like to know how to get some of my Foundry stuff working a little better with it. For instance, I have a 7140 that currently (until next Tuesday morning) is providing gateways for a back-end network at a colocation facility. For it's directly connected networks, I can get MAC information in the machine tracker. This is highly cool. The design we have adopted as our standard since moving up to gigabit interconnections employs two Foundry FES X448 distribution switches running VRRP-E to float the gateway. The edge switches are connected to both of these distribution switches using 1q trunks, and the VLANs we extend to the edge are running spanning tree. The distribution swithces are connected back to a carrier network via /30 subnets, and routes are learned by them from the carrier using OSPF. In the machine tracker, I cannot search for MAC information for any of the networks owned by my Foundry switches. I can get DNS reverses, but not MACs. This would be a very cool and needed thing for us. Also, the EdgeIrons are in the database, but I get pretty much no information for them that I can find. No port information or anything. I am thinking the problems I am having are related to what SNMP information getDeviceData knows how to ferret out of the devices, but this may very well be the wrong impression to have. What information would I need to supply from either Foundry documentation, or NAV application logs that might help figure out how to fix this stuff? -- Later, Carlton Houston chouston(a)gmail.com

NAV 3 RC2 General Question

Hi All, First, I think this project has a great deal of potential, but it's merely a feeling at this point. I can't get much of anything to work. I have stopped getting python errors for the things I have been trying to get working. This without changing any code, just ironing out the details of how things should be installed, etc. I have added several switches, none of which were recognized types. These are: Foundry EdgeIron 24G-A (4) Foundry FastIron x448 Premium (2) Foundry EdgeIron 48G (1) Cisco 7140 (1) Again, this is just a few little things to start to get a feel for how things are supposed to work in NAV. I did snmp queries for the numeric value of the SysObjectID for each type, and with the exception of a difference in the 24 port edgeirons, I think because of a code revision, NAV was completely happy, and felt it recognized each box type as I added them. It was able to record the serial numbers on the edgeiron switches and the cisco 7140. I don't think the FES exposes the serial number via the console or SNMP. I get nothing in cricket at all, even though I think I have all the dependencies, etc. Until 4pm yesterday, I was getting this error in the getDeviceData.log file. I did a psql query on the snmpoid table, but I am unclear as to what OID I should throw in for, say, interface stats, and what response I am looking for. Any help here would be nice. Also, I get nothing but the java application with the refresh button, etc, on the vlanMap. How do I make that show stuff? There's also nothing at all listed in the network explorer. When I go into the manage devices thing, it sees all the boxes, but lists no modules for any of them. What does that mean? Traffic Map shows nothing :/

I've added a few IP devices and they show up fine. But when I click on the traffic map, all I see is the applet loading up (with the java logo). I wait but nothing happens. It's not the browser since I've tried from many computers. By the way, I'm using SSL. Any ideas?
