Hello,
we´re actually testing your magnificant nms and we´ve some questions about "Edit Database"
Hello Christian,
thank you for your kind words :-)
a) Is it possible to add/edit the default categories for the ip devices; e.g. "category=gsw" or "category=wlan"
No. These categories are fixed; NAV uses them to treat different classes of devices differently. See http://metanav.uninett.no/categoriesandtypes .
If you're looking for a way to arbitrarily classify your devices, you should look at subcategories. For each of the fixed categories, you can define an unlimited number of subcategories to add your devices to (also using EditDB). NAV already comes with a set of predefined example subcategories for the SRV top category.
b) Is it possible to change the "Function" description of an aviable ip device; e.g. Funcion=Network
Go to EditDB -> IP devices -> Edit (or look it up in the device browser/report system and click Edit from the device page) and select your device.
Click the update-button. This will cause EditDB to fetch the serial number from the device, using SNMP. The next page allows you to edit the Function value for the device before completing the edit.
