As we discussed on IRC just before I went on vacation, the problem is using kaffe as the JVM on Debian Sarge. The version of kaffe in Sarge will not understand the command line option -Djava.ext.dirs=<nav library dir> (and afaik, it only supports Java 1.1, which is too old). This means that it can't find the NAV Java libraries without mucking about with your CLASSPATH environment variable or editing the startup scripts. We fixed a long standing problem with missing link load in the Traffic Map in that version, but you may be experiencing a different problem. The Traffic Map applet requests its data from the vPServer servlet running in the Tomcat container; the vPServer component calls the vprrd.py script to retrieve the actual RRD data, and something might have gone wrong during the calling of this script.
