I have reworked the installation description for NAV 3.0.0 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 AS Update 1 (phew, long name...) to include installing on CentOS 4.1. CentOS is a free version of RHEL and can be found here: http://www.centos.org/ I have also updated some of the packages to newer versions, most notably Java from 1.4.2 to 1.5.0 (after a recommendation from Kristian Eide) and Tomcat from 5.0.28 to 5.5.12. I think you can figure out the dependencies from that. Also, there is a utility called serviceChecker.py or something similar that can assist you in debugging what this checkers actually do. If you look at the service availability, it probably don't contain any data, which means it hasn't been able to measure anything. Urgent: SMS sending problem

I was planning to get NAV 3 into service soon. So the next thing I needed to test is that NAV sends SMS'es to the person that is on duty. But I do not get this to work. Error in report tool "Trunked core switch ports"

I'm having the same error messages as you Roger. I guess this can have something to do with the version of postgres we are using. I have installed Fedora Core 4 which comes with ver. 8.0.3 of postgres. I guess RHEL4 comes with ver 8 to. And I believe boolean expressions are handled in a different way in version 8 of postgres than in ver. 7. But I'm not a database expert. But if you edit /usr/local/nav/etc/report/front.html and replaces trunk=1 with trunk=t in line 80 the report works. The other "error" you reported earlier can be avoid by editing /usr/local/nav/etc/report/report.conf. Change line 290 from: GROUP BY roomid,sysname,host(ip),catid,orgid,val,netbox.netboxid,prefixid"; to GROUP BY roomid,sysname,host(ip),catid,orgid,val,netbox.netboxid,netbox.ip,prefix id"; Nice if someone of the devolpers can comment this. Hello again. I finally made it work. UIOs ldap server doesn't accept uncrypted connections when authenticating a user/password. So after alot of testing it worked when openldap knew where to find the correct certificate. One problem occured though. Using the subversion repository is not an option for me right now since I will only get the source there and will have to compile it, somethink I tried earlier with some beta version. There is just too much setup needed to get this to compile for me to have the time to make this work. So, I am instead hoping for the release version or maybe an RC3 version coming soon so I can start testing out the alert setup and the SMS alert system. Since I did not have the chance to attend the GigaCampus meeting in Trondheim this time I did not get any "inside information" to when to expect a new release of NAV. Thanks for the help, Kristian. Linking the files and restarting the tomcat server fixed. This step is missing in the InstallingOnSLES, so I went ahead and added it as follows: http://metanav.ntnu.no/moin.cgi/InstallingOnSLES#configuring-tomcat-and-the… Next, symlink the .jar files as well: cd /usr/share/tomcat/shared/lib ln -s /usr/local/nav/lib/java/*.jar . As Roar Pettersen suggested to him, EditDB is unfortunately very picky about the version of the pysnmp library. It requires pysnmp-3.3.5. It was always the plan to have the privilege system be this flexible, but we never had the time to implement it fully. The only way to limit users' access to information in the current version of NAV is to make use of the web_access privilege to grant access to URL patterns. The example groups that come with a NAV installation will have some web_access privileges set to demonstrate their usage. Already, you can enter a hierarchical organization structure of department names (preferably using abbreviations) in EditDB, and user accounts can be made members of these departments. The department/orgid that "owns" a piece of network equipment will be derived from the information that NAV collects from the equipment. The idea is that improvements to the privilege system will allow administrators to use the accounts' organizational memberships to limit users' access to information.
