Have you read the "getting started" guide? [1] Also, the Debian package provides a Debian specific README in /usr/share/doc/nav/README.Debian . If, after reading this, you are still having trouble, please be more specific about which steps you have taken and what you are expecting. Heads-Up: Cisco bug prevents NAV settings to be written to running-config
by Mischa Diehm 20 Okt '15

Hi, if you upgrade to recent versions on your cisco infrastructure and have a distributed setup of admins using NAV/snmp to tell the device what to do, you will lose all your configuration as soon as your device reboots as the changes you made are not written into the running-config! So heads up and be warned. -m - https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuu48624/ adding port to vlan via SNMP not in running-config on cat4k IOSXE CSCuu48624 Description Symptom: Adding port to a vlan does not update running-configuration with "switchport access vlan X" command, hence after reload port would go back to VLAN 1 (default). Conditions: 03.07.00 or 03.07.01 software version catalyst 3k/4k assign port to a vlan via SNMP (snmpset -v2c -c test 10.106.69.151 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.68.1.2.2.1.2.6 i 255) Workaround: assign port to a VLAN manually through CLI via "switchport access vlan X" command Further Problem Description: When assigning VLAN to the access port on the switch using setSNMP (snmpset -v2c -c test 10.106.69.151 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.68.1.2.2.1.2.6 i 255) port does not get any configuration in show running-config interface output. NAV supporting Cisco Voice VLANs
by Mischa Diehm 13 Okt '15

13 Okt '15

Hi, we are looking into using NAV with Cisco IP-Phones (8841/8851 series) and while trying the feature we realized the config put on the port doesn¹t use the cisco proprietary settings but sets the port into trunk. What we want to achieve is using an additional voice-vlan on the port like:: Switch(config)#interface range fastethernet 0/1 - 2 Switch(config-if)#switchport mode access Switch(config-if)#Switchport access vlan 50 Switch(config-if)#switchport voice vlan 10 As stated by Morten via IRC this has not been implemented yet also due to the fact that they lack the devices to test on. I wanted to ask if it was possible to implement this so it becomes part of the main NAV tree. We could fund this development and help with the testing. Maybe you could also give an estimate on how much work this would be? Thanks in advance, Mischa -- Mischa Diehm | Network Team (NINS) UniBasel | IT-Services (ITS) Klingebergstr. 70 | CH-4056 Basel Tel. +41 61 267 1574 | https://its.unibas.ch

Dear NAV users, I just have a fresh install of NAV In Debian 7. Everything seems to be ok: Graphite is working, I can include objets, I am getting alerts, etc. Nevertheless, the Netmap app function is not working, and as soon as I enter to it, I get the following error: AttributeError: 'QuerySet' object has no attribute 'categories_set' Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/django/core/handlers/base.py", line 109, in get_response response = callback(request, *callback_args, **callback_kwargs) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/django/views/generic/base.py", line 48, in view return self.dispatch(request, *args, **kwargs) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/django/views/generic/base.py", line 69, in dispatch return handler(request, *args, **kwargs) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/django/views/generic/base.py", line 123, in get context = self.get_context_data(**kwargs) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/nav/web/netmap/views.py", line 70, in get_context_data NetmapViewSerializer(netmap_views).data File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/rest_framework/serializers.py", line 572, in data self._data = self.to_native(obj) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/nav/web/netmap/serializers.py", line 95, in to_native for view_category in obj.categories_set.all().select_related( AttributeError: 'QuerySet' object has no attribute 'categories_set' Some help would be highly appreciated, Best regards, Gustavo García RedCLARA

Typeoid issues
by ken.livesey＠gmail.com 29 Sep '15

29 Sep '15

So I am using the latest appliance in a vmware environment and I am new to NAV as of two weeks ago. Things started well and I am in love the potential of NAV. I had 20 devices added and those were working well; however I have run into an issue that I cannot seem to wrap my head around. It stated last week when I added a device and it failed to locate the typeoid string after performing an inventory. As I added additional devices I kept getting the same results. Thinking it might be a resource issue I purged all devices, restarted NAV and just added the device where the typeoid string first failed to load. No change. I then started searching the web for other with like errors. Not much except for a singe bridge plugin error which does not match this issue. I then bumped up the logging for ipdevpol plugings and found this warning: [WARNING plugins.typeoid.typeoid] [inventory DA13_SW07.xxxx.xxx] Netbox has changed type from unknown to unknown (sysObjectID 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.367) Each device for where the typeoid failed to load has this warning. So I figure the typeoid just failed to populate the table correctly. So I matched the reporting sysObjectID with the correct Cisco name and created a database seed with this type. I then rescanned and bingo the type field populated. Thinking I was out of the woods I check after the next inventory poll and found the device failed to access the devices inventory. Huh. Logs report this issue: [ERROR jobs.jobhandler] [inventory DA13_SW07.xxxx.xxx] Job 'inventory' for DA13_SW07.xxxx.xxx aborted: Plugin ciscovlan reported a timeout I have verified the system snmp and switch configurations and they are identical. I am using snmp 2c and the same RO community for all switches. There are layer 2 and layer 3 switches with produce this issue. There multiple models and port configurations. These are single function LANS connected with high speed MPLS, broadband, and direct fiber connections. I am guessing this is all stemming from a condition where the device cannot be polled or cannot be polled in a allotted time. There are no network error to these site and I have some sites were devices work well and others do not. All other aspects of the device can be polled and reported on just fine it’s just the inventory which fails. Here is the snmp stats from a L3 device which is subject to this issue. NAV RAM Usage
by Studart UNI-RN 29 Jul '15

Hello guys, I'm running NAV 4.2 in a production environment here at the company I'm working for. I'm using Debian Wheezy (no graph interface installed) with 1GB of RAM and I have about 50 devices in the NAV seed database. I've noticed that almost all the the memory is already in use. It's no problem for me to increase it since it's in a virtual environment. But since I increase it I was just wondering if this is normal for NAV to use such amount of RAM memory.
