Assuming you have the non-free section as part of your sources in /etc/apt/sources.list, try running "apt-get install python-profiler" and see whether NAV works after that. Switches are not shown on the top level actually, but you can click on the router icon to navigate further down in the network (you might have to be logged in for this to work). -- Kristian

The /web_access/ privilege is used to grant access to resources on the web server, by matching the URL requested by the browser against the regular expression in the privilege target. If the URL requested by the browser matches any of the regular expressions in the web_access privileges of the user's groups, access is granted. If not, access is denied, and the user is redirected to the NAV login page. So web_access for ^/(report|status|emotd|alertprofiles|machinetracker|browse|preferences|cricket)/? grants access to any URL beginning with a slash, followed by any of the pipe separated words, then possibly followed by another slash (I'm assuming you know your regexp here). > What are the use of "Member of the following organizations"? So, what we hope to have ready in NAV 3.1 is a system where the administrator(s) can configure privileges which allow users to use the machine tracker to track IP addresses only within the prefixes belonging to their own organizational units, or view detailed information only about IP devices owned by their own organizational units. Can anyone tell me why I receive the error message: SQLException while posting alert: java.sql.SQLException: ERROR: More than one tuple returned by a subselect used as an expression in my eventEngine.log. The only alerts I receive is software and firmware changes and not box down or anything else. The Yes, this is most likely caused by too many entries in the alerttype table. My suggestion would be to delete all entries from that table and re-run the INSERT statements from manage.sql. -- Kristian

Hi! I am new to NAV! I have installed it from debian package. I did some database seeding and i get SNMP data from router, but: 1. I dont get any Statistics 2. Vlan problems, traffic map, network explorer

Hi - i'm having two problems, which i suspect are related. I have just installed nav (debian package, version 2+3.0rc1-3) and set it up according to the docs. I have added our router and a few of our switches to the database but when i visit the traffic map, all i see is the router. Ditto for the network explorer. What exactly is required for devices to show up? I then noticed that it wasn't picking up the vlans correctly when i looked in reports. They're all set to blank. I've added one router which is a cisco 7204vxr, one cisco 2900 switch and one dell Powerconnect 5224 switch. Based on previous posts, i looked in the swport table in the manage database and can confirm that it has picked up the correct vlans from one of our switches at least. getBoksMacs.log contains lines like these: Oct 13 16:10:03 2005 getBoksData_01 QUERY_NETBOX-6-MAC_ENTRY Missing swportid for ifindex 25 on boks: cisco0 Oct 13 16:10:03 2005 getBoksData_01 QUERY_NETBOX-6-MAC_ENTRY Querying vlan: 1, MACs: 56 Mappings: 22 Blocked: 0 / 1 Oct 13 16:10:03 2005 getBoksData_01 QUERY_NETBOX-6-MAC_ENTRY Fetching vlan: 2 It has lines like that for all of our vlans. More info on http://metanav.ntnu.no/moin.cgi/SeedEssentials After you have given necessary seed info on your routers and switches, gDD (getDeviceData) will start to collect information from the devices. The arp logger and cam logger will in turn collect and store arp and cam data. With this in place you can use the machine tracker to track live and historical data regarding an ip address and in turn (or directly) a mac address. When i click on the link "IP address scope - graphical view", in one of my subnet 114% of the ip-addresses are used. How is that possible? Maybe I should start to use IPv6 on this subnett :-) Peder Sefland

Installation of NAV 3.0.0 on CentOS 4.1

I have reworked the installation description for NAV 3.0.0 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 AS Update 1 (phew, long name...) to include installing on CentOS 4.1. CentOS is a free version of RHEL and can be found here: http://www.centos.org/ I have also updated some of the packages to newer versions, most notably Java from 1.4.2 to 1.5.0 (after a recommendation from Kristian Eide) and Tomcat from 5.0.28 to 5.5.12.
